Reducing the Burden: CPA Welcomes Regulatory Reforms to Lower Medicine Prices
Recent government moves to slash overlapping regulatory fees are a major win for both pharmacists and patients.
The Community Pharmacist Association recently applauded the Cabinet’s decision to streamline duplicated licensing fees within the pharmaceutical sector. For years, pharmacists faced overlapping costs from multiple regulators, which inevitably contributed to higher medicine prices for the end consumer.
Our Chairperson has been vocal in advocating for a consolidated “Pharmacies Act”—a single legislative framework that would improve efficiency and reduce the “cost of doing business.” By removing initial registration fees for retail premises and scrapping unnecessary levies, the government is helping us fulfill our mission: providing affordable, high-quality pharmaceutical care. The CPA continues to work in close conjunction with the government to ensure these savings are passed down to the communities we serve, making essential healthcare more accessible for every Zimbabwean.
